An Aranguez couple is warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex after an attack at their home last night.
The 48-year-old man, Loop News was told, was shot to the left abdomen, while a 52-year-old woman was hit with a cutlass to the back of her neck.
Both are said to be in stable conditions at the hospital.
Police said the incident took place around 10pm last night at their home along Samaroo Road, Aranguez.
The couple was awakened by a noise, and upon checking, they observed a group of men in their yard allegedly stealing their celery crops.
When the man confronted the suspects, he was shot by one of the individuals, while the woman was chopped by the assailants.
The suspects then fled the scene.
