Jamaica: Another round of toll increases looming for Highway 2000 East-West

Members of the public have until Saturday, June 19 to provide feedback to the Ministry of Transport and Mining on proposed rate increases to the toll being charged on the East-West leg of Highway 2000.

The proposed increases, which have been published by the ministry, are set to take effect on July 3.

They are as follows:

May Pen toll plaza; the increases would see Class One vehicles moving from $130 to $150; Class Two vehicles from $220 to $250; and Class Three vehicles from $440 to $500.

Vineyard toll plaza; the rate increases would see Class One vehicles moving from $510 to $550; Class Two vehicles from $750 to $810; and Class Three vehicles from $1,400 to $1,510.

Portmore toll plaza; the proposed increases would see the toll for Class One vehicles moving from  $260 $290; Class Two vehicles moving from $420 to $470; and Class Three vehicles going from $790 to $870.

Spanish Town toll plaza; the proposed increase would see the toll for Class One vehicles moving from $190 to $210; Class Two vehicles from $290 to $320; and Class Three vehicles from $530 to $590.

The increase in the rates, which the toll operator may choose to adjust annually, was delayed in June of last year as the country was then battling the early onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic. The increases instead took effect in September of 2020.
