Trinidad & Tobago: Kamla calls for Commission of Inquiry into SOE, pandemic response

Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar, has called for a Commission of Inquiry to be launched into the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specifically, Persad Bissessar wants a commission to evaluate the government’s management and spending during the pandemic.

She made the call during the United National Congress’ (UNC) Virtual Report last night.

“So, what I am asking, honorable Prime Minister, and I have drafted a letter of which I will send to you tomorrow. I am asking you, Prime Minister to use your good office to advise Her Excellency the President to establish a Commission of Inquiry for the purposes of examining the management and the expenditures we have used in COVID,” she said.

Zoning in on the current State of Emergency (SOE) which was declared on May 15, the Opposition Leader said that too needs to be evaluated.
