A request by defence attorneys to examine a file containing new evidence against Everton ‘Beachy Stout’ McDonald, the popular Portland businessman who is accused of murdering his two wives, has further halted a decision on whether he will be granted bail.
The 67-year-old businessman appeared via Zoom in the Home Circuit Court on Thursday.
Justice Vinette Graham-Allen was expected to hand down her decision on the question of bail on the day, but the decision was delayed for a third time due to the request by the attorneys, which was eventually granted.
As a result of the development, Justice Graham-Allen remanded the businessman in custody until June 1.
On Tuesday, May 4, prosecutors urged the judge to delay her decision on bail for McDonald, as new evidence had emerged in the matter against him.
