Trinidad & Tobago: Murdered businessman was alive when he was wrapped in plastic

Businessman Anand Maharaj died as a result of asphyxiation.  

Maharaj, 60, a well-known businessman from Gasparillo, was found dead at about 10pm on Saturday at a home along St Fabien Road, Gasparillo. 

At the time, his body had been wrapped in plastic and was hidden inside a foldable couch. 

The autopsy has since shown that Maharaj was alive when he was wrapped up. 

He died as a result of suffocation. 

A man who was at the home at the time of the discovery has since been detained. 

He is expected to be charged for murder. 

Police were told that Maharaj was last seen alive at about 2pm that day when he went to visit a client. He told relatives that following this, he would be visiting a known money lender to secure some US currency for his business.
