Jamaica: INDECOM seeking witnesses to reported shooting of son, wife by cop

The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) is appealing to witnesses to the alleged shooting by a police corporal of his estranged wife and their son at their Keats Avenue, Duhaney Park, St Andrew home on Wednesday, to come forward.

While the wife suffered minor injuries, the son, reportedly a 19-year-old past student of Wolmer’s Boys’ School, is in critical condition in hospital after two surgeries. He sustained injuries to his chest and abdomen.

INDECOM made the appeal for witnesses in a statement on Thursday while indicating that it has commenced a formal investigation into the incident.

According to INDECOM, reports were that family members in the house were engaged in a verbal dispute, which subsequently became physical.

During a tussle, the off-duty policeman reportedly discharged his private licensed firearm, resulting in the injuries to his wife and son.

The injured teen was transported by his father to the hospital, where he remains. It is understood that he is not speaking, but is responding by touching.
