Trinidad & Tobago: Griffith: No replacement yet to head SORT

No decision has yet been made on a replacement to head the Special Operations Response Team, following charges against Mark Hernandez for alleged misbehaviour in public office.

The charges against the former SORT head, who is one of the nominees for Deputy Commissioner of Police, stem from the deaths of Joel Belcon and Andrew Morris in police custody during the Andrea Bharatt murder investigation.

At the weekly police media briefing today, Police Commissioner Gary Griffith said discussions on replacing Hernandez are ongoing, adding that the TTPS must ensure that the right people are in charge of units like SORT.

Griffith said there will be a more concrete update in this regard at a subsequent briefing.
