“The police have no intention of shooting people. The instructions are clear, if you want to evade arrest while you are guilty of serious criminal offenses, the police are obliged to take tough action. The police will never shoot without first firing warning shots, ”says chief of police Roberto Prade in conversation with Suriname Herald.
The police chief has responded to questions related to the police crackdown on criminals earlier this week. “If this is not heeded, we will act differently. Every death is one too many, but the police do not go out to shoot people, ”emphasizes the police topper.
“If the situation arises and the troops have to defend themselves, the police have no choice. Anyone who feels or is being attacked tends to defend themselves. The police will never just shoot at someone. We don’t have American situations in Suriname, ”the police chief notes.
