Police Commissioner Gary Griffith said he met with firearm dealers and firearm range owners to discuss policies after an advertisement showing firearms and assault weapons for sale was shared online.
Speaking at a media briefing today held by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Griffith said he was ‘alarmed’ to see such advertisements and called a meeting yesterday:
“I held a meeting with all of the gun range operators and firearm dealers in Trinidad and Tobago. The reason being is that as much as I think we are moving ahead in the right manner, we need to ensure that this does not get out of control.”
“I understand the importance of citizens who need firearms but this must not be something that will reach a point where it can actually affect national security.”
