Suriname: Young woman stuck for two burglaries

The 28-year-old woman YS was tracked down by the police of the Uitvlugt office on 1 April and arrested at her home address in Uitvlugt. On March 29, two injured parties filed a report at the police station about aggravated theft. Among other things, a 42-inch television set and two laptops have been removed from MD’s home. Two watches, jewelry and perfumes were taken from the home of the second injured MS.

The police started an investigation, in which camera images showed that a certain passenger car had been used in both burglaries. By means of the license plate number, the police found out that YS had rented the car from a car rental company.

According to statement from YS, she rented the vehicle in her name for a friend of hers. YS then stated that only one call sign of that friend is known to her and that she does not know where her friend lives.

In the interest of the investigation, YS was put in custody by the police after consultation with the Public Prosecution Service. The vehicle that she hired in her name has been confiscated pending the investigation.
