First lady Mellisa Santokhi handed over coupons to market vendors at the Central Market in Paramaribo on Thursday. The first lady is aware of the needs within society and tries to meet those who need it most by means of coupons. Instead of packages of pre-selected products, coupons are provided that allow people to source their items of choice from the designated supermarkets.
The first lady spoke with various market vendors and listened to the needs and cries of the target group. The first lady was able to observe the conditions under which market vendors work to provide Surinamese society with fresh vegetables, fruit and other products on a daily basis.
Market vendors of the Central Market have welcomed gestures that the Institute of the First Lady has made to them, the CDS reports.
