Haiti: National Palace denies Moïse flood rumor

A rumor stating that President Jovenel Moïse was nearly carried away in a flood spread on social media Sunday. The Haitian government said the rumor is false.

Social media users also posted pictures of Moïse soaked and of two vehicles in the flooded river in Môle-Saint-Nicolas, a borough in the northwest of Haiti.

The National Palace denied the rumor in a press release on Sunday.

President Moïse had traveled to Môle-Saint-Nicolas with his family for Easter, according to the National Palace. While there, heavy rains fell. He and his entourage went to the flooded river to assist residents, including the people who were in the two vehicles, the press release reads.
