Trinidad & Tobago: Career criminal nabbed for shooting at man who hit his dog

A 37-year-old man, who already has 60 charges against his name, was slapped with an additional five charges after he allegedly shot at a man who ‘bounced’ his dog. 

Anton Smart, police said, of Wharton Street, Laventille was remanded into custody following his appearance yesterday before a Port of Spain Magistrate. 

He was charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of ammunition with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and shooting with intent. 

The suspect was held following an incident on March 19 along Wharton Street where he allegedly confronted a driver who hit his dog while driving. 

The victim told police it was an accident and when he came to apologise to Smart, the man allegedly began to argue, following which he went to a nearby car, pulled out a firearm and shot at the victim’s vehicle. 

The victim, fearful for his life, drove off.
