Rosebel Goldmines workers are currently in a sitdown action because the company and the Rosebel Goldmines Employee Organization (RGWO) have not yet reached an agreement on the new collective labor agreement (CLA). Members of the board of the union confirm this in conversation with Suriname Herald.
“The company has come up with a proposal that does not match what the RGWO has submitted and that is not accepted by the workers. The union has submitted a wish list and the company has to agree to that ”, notes a union member.
According to the members, a representative of the parent company traveled to Suriname for negotiations, but these have not yielded anything. Negotiations for the new collective labor agreement have been ongoing for eight months. The workers are already tired of waiting. The sitdown action will not be lifted as long as we have not reached an agreement, according to the union.
