Jamaica: Guard remanded in garbage dispute murder case faces more charges

One of two persons who were shot and injured in a dispute over garbage in which one woman was killed in Carlton Mountain in Claremont, St Ann last week, remains in critical condition in hospital.

The development was revealed when Leroy Martin, the 56-year-old man charged with several offences related to the incident, appeared in the St Ann Parish Court on Monday.

Martin, otherwise known by the alias ‘Biggy’, a resident of Carlton Mountain, has been charged with the murder of Navagia Gray.

In addition, he has been charged with two counts of wounding with intent and also illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition, all stemming from the shooting of the two other persons during the incident.

A bail hearing for the accused did not get under way as scheduled, due to prosecutors indicating that additional charges are pending against him.

Further, a statement is yet to be collected from one of the complainants – a female – due to her being hospitalised in critical condition.
