Jamaica: Clarke opens Budget Debate amid anticipation of return to growth

The 2021/22 Budget Debate will get underway Tuesday at Gordon House with Finance and Public Service Minister, Dr Nigel Clarke making the opening presentation.

In what will be one of the most closely watched budget presentations in years, Clarke will tell the nation how the Government will finance the $830.8 billion Estimates of Expenditure that were approved last week by the Standing Finance Committee of the Parliament.

The Budget has been crafted, and will be presented in the midst of a once in a century pandemic brought on by the coronavirus (COVID-19) that has crippled the world’s economy and thrown tens of thousands of Jamaicans out of work.

Clarke revealed last month that Government revenues were down a staggering $73 billion for the current fiscal year when compared to last year.
