Haiti: Customs: No Cargo Screenings Until New Contract Signed

On the same day President Jovenel Moïse recommended strengthening the country’s ports to prevent weapons trafficking, the General Administration of Customs (AGD) announced on Twitter that cargo shipments won’t be verified until further notice on Monday.

“The implementation of the Program of Verification and Conformity of Merchandises is suspended until the signature of a new agreement with the General Society of Surveillance,” the AGD writes in a note.

AGD didn’t specify the detailed reason why the program of verification is suspended.

Customs officials found firearms, bullets and flashlights in a cargo shipment in Cap Haitien on Thursday.
