Police said a 25-year-old Santa Cruz man has been charged after an officer was injured and had to be taken for treatment.
In a statement, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said Chad Webb, of La Canoe Road, Lower Santa Cruz, was due to appear virtually before a Port of Spain Magistrate today to answer the charges stemming from an incident which occurred on February 15.
The TTPS said Chad Webb, of La Canoa Road, Lower Santa Cruz, was charged by PC Dass, of the North-Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF), with assaulting a police officer, possession of an offensive weapon, resisting arrest, and using obscene language.
The charges stem from an incident in which NEDTF officers were responding to report of loud music in the La Canoa Road, Lower Santa Cruz area when they came across a group of about 20 persons.
Upon seeing the officers, the group dispersed, however, one man, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, approached the officers and allegedly began behaving in an erratic manner while using obscene language towards the officers.
