Haitian officials released a draft of the new constitution on Wednesday that specifies President Jovenel Moise’s term ends in 2022.
The nation has been divided over this argument because the current constitution is unclear on the matter. Many politicians and constitutional experts have voiced out that Moise’s term ends Feb. 7 of this year.
“He remains in function until the end of his term, Feb. 7, 2022,” Article 271 of the draft of the new constitution reads.
A constitutional referendum will be held on Apr. 25. The draft of the constitution is available here
