Jamaica: Criminals in illegal cell site battery trade under police spotlight

Criminals seeking to fund their underground operations have been targeting cell phone sites, making away with batteries valued at millions of dollars and reselling the items sometimes for very small amounts, as little as a couple of hundred dollars at various underground sites.

Investigations by Loop News has revealed that criminal elements in their bids to sell some of the items, have been using social media platforms to advertise the items.

The police, as part of their clampdown on the illegal trade, has identified Riverton City, the home of the city dump in Western St Andrew, as one of the main locations where many of the Illegal batteries are being stored.
