Haiti: Senate Announces A National Dialogue To Prevent Chaos

The Haitian government plans to hold a “Big National Dialogue” on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4 in hopes of preventing a disaster as Feb. 7 approaches, senate president Joseph Lambert said in a public note.

“Convinced of the political leaders’ ability to find an agreement on what they disagree on for the good of this generation and future ones, the Senate of the Republic invites all Haitians to go beyond themselves to save Haiti,” the note reads.

The government and its opponents disagree on whether President Jovenel Moise’s term ends Feb. 7 of this year or next year. Opposition leaders are holding protests on a daily basis, which often turn violent.
