Hoarding and causing a rush to shop is not necessary for the weekend lockdown, according to Health Minister Amar Ramadhin. He emphasized that this is only a weekend. “There is no rush or no point in storing a lot,” he said. The various cases will be open again on Monday, he immediately added. The government has intended to inform society about the lockdown at an early stage, so that citizens are prepared for it and also to prevent a sudden rush to buy groceries.
The minister explains that an appeal will also be made to wholesalers and distribution companies to continue to provide the various shops and supermarkets with the necessary goods. “There is no need to panic. We will do everything we can to guarantee food, ”said Ramadhin. The call to continue to guarantee food also applies to greengrocers. Ramadhin urged the people not to hoard, because this is not a total lockdown.
The government has chosen to implement two weekend lockdowns, with the first starting at 7:00 PM on Friday and ending at 5:00 AM on Monday. The second weekend lockdown will start on Friday, February 5 at 7:00 PM and will last until Monday, February 8 at 5:00 AM. Ramadhin further explained that the implementation of the lockdown will take place in phases. The effect of the two weekend lockdowns will also be examined.
