In a decree issued Tuesday, President Jovenel Moïse increased the fees for passports. The price hike comes days after the government said it had finished a project to upgrade the travel document with electronic features.
The regular 32-page passport now costs 2,500 gourdes ($34) for minors and 8,000 gourdes ($110) for adults. Before the decree, an adult’s passport was 6,000 gourdes ($82).
A new 48-page passport is available for 3,500 gourdes ($48) for minors and 12,000 gourdes ($165) for adults.
This is the second time in three years that Moïse’s has raised passport fees.
