Different parts of Haiti are seeing outbreaks of scabies, mainly among children. People began posting pictures and videos of children with the skin disease on social media last week, according to TripFoumi Enfo.
The white brownish scabs can be easily treated, said Dr. Philippe Desmangles. However, the doctor said, residents are making it worse with home remedies.
“Scabies is a simple disease that’s aggravated by all the bad junk patients administer themselves,” said Desmangles, who has been infected three times and treated with medicine.
Dr. Reginald Boulos, a public health official, posted on Twitter that some Gonave Island residents haven’t received medical treatments.
