Amid an apparent stand-off from the results of Monday’s Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections, some are calling for fresh elections and the revision of the THA Act moving forward.
Attorney Martin George said the results of Monday’s Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections shows amendments should be made to the THA Act. His statements come after the results of the THA elections in which it appears that the People’s National Movement (PNM) and Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) achieved what appears to be a close tie with six seats each.
George, who is Chairman of the Tobago Business Chamber, told Loop News that the apparent tie shows that fresh elections must be called and the Act must be amended:
‘The results of last night’s THA elections makes it clear that there is definite need for some kind of constitutional amendment to ensure that the THA Act is amended, and to also ensure that the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) gets involved and that we increase the number of seats in Tobago from 12 to 13.’
