The initiators of the price control and price monitoring project, the VHP parliamentarian Radjendre Debie and Saramacca district commissioner (DC) Sherin Bansi-Durga, were received yesterday by Minister Saskia Walden of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation (EZ). They presented the project to the minister.
The intention is that every week all shops in each resort are checked and the prices of the basic goods are published on the Facebook page BIC Saramacca. The prices of the basic goods can be followed weekly per resort and supermarket on the website of BIC Saramacca.
The economic measures implemented by the government to get the economy back on track have indeed led to price increases for all goods and services. The plan, the operation of which has been worked out in detail, was presented by the district commissioner to the Minister of Economic Affairs and her staff.
The DC indicated that the plan is based on decentralization of price control and price monitoring carried out by the Ministry of Economic Affairs to the district up to now, and that up to resort level, by trained administrative officials.
