A 33-year-old man was detained while trying to hide a quantity of ammunitions and drugs in a busy area off the roadway in Sangre Grande.
The suspect, police believe, was ‘dropping off’ the items for it to be picked up by other parties.
He was held on Monday evening during a police operation conducted by officers of the Eastern Division’s Special Operations Unit, led by Cpl Ramnarine, as well as other officers of the division led by Insp Callender.
The officers received intelligence which led them to Rampersad Trace, where they observed the suspect attempting to conceal items in tall grass to the southern end of the roadway.
The officers approached the suspect, and he was searched.
He was found to be carrying a knapsack containing seven plastic packages of marijuana – the combined weight was an estimated seven kilogrammes.
