Jamaica: Police stoned at party in Portand; one arrested, promoter being sought

One man has been charged with various offences and two persons are being sought by the police after lawmen shutdown an illegal party in Sanshore district, Portland last weekend.

Reports are that about 10:15 pm Sunday, a police team was on patrol in the community, where they observed a party in progress. The event which was unpermitted, was taking place outside of curfew hours and the number of persons at the gathering numbered approximately 150, the police said.

One of the patrons, 24-year-old Kenroy Johnson, otherwise called ‘Big Boy’, was reportedly accosted by the police when they observed a bulge in his waist. According to the police, while the officers searched Johnson, the crowd began throwing stones at them, injuring the officers and damaging a police service vehicle.

Johnson, who was allegedly found with a knife in his possession, was arrested and subsequently charged with being armed with an offensive weapon; malicious destruction of property; and indecent, abusive and calumnious language.

A labourer of Barracks district in the parish, Johnson is scheduled to appear in the Portland Parish Court at a later date.
