Trinidad & Tobago: ‘I will not rob again’: Man to stand outside police station with sign

In what some have described as an unusual but effective order, a 20-year-old man has been ordered to stand outside the Besson Street Police Station with a sign saying ‘I will not rob again’.

The man, who is from Laventille, appeared virtually before a Port of Spain Magistrate on December 23 in connection with robbery related offences.

He plead guilty to the offence, however, before the court could pass sentence, the accused pleaded for leniency, saying it was a mistake brought on by hard times, and promised never to do it again.

After further submissions to the court, his ‘Christmas wish’ was granted, and he was ordered to report to the Besson Street Police Station for the rest of the year, between 9am and midday, without fail, with the aforementioned sign.
