Tuesday’s public meeting of the National Assembly (DNA) has been canceled. Tomorrow DNA would start handling the amendment of the Sales Tax Act, the Wages Tax Act and the Income Tax Act.
With the legislative changes, taxes in Suriname are increased. For example, the government wants to change the rate structure of the sales tax. This is necessary to realize the government’s recovery plan. The government wants to increase the sales tax rate for imports by two percent, from ten to twelve percent.
The government also wants DNA to agree to raise taxes for higher income groups. The government relies heavily on tax revenues to meet its expenses. Therefore, it is imperative that fiscal measures are in place to increase the income of the state.
