Suriname: VHP: “Bouterse should never be given the opportunity to violate human rights again”

The VHP wants violations of human rights to be severely punished. It must be ensured that government leaders do not become synonymous with oppression and dictatorship. It is our collective duty to continue to strive for a world in which no one is left behind, forgotten or maltreated, the VHP says on the eve of the 38th anniversary of December 8, 1982. The party states that Bouterse should never be allowed to violate human rights again .

Recently, ex-army chief also ex-president Desi Bouterse at a meeting in Ocer, called on young people to take away the government with weapons. Bouterse wants to return the country to the eighties, when he violated human rights on a large scale as a military dictator. “We must prevent this, the VHP absolutely does not want a repeat of the coup d’état and human rights violations of the eighties.”

To outline the rights and freedoms of every human being, the historical document Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was drawn up in 1948. The UDHR is the first international agreement on the basic principles of human rights. The UDHR is signed by all 192 members of the United Nations, including Suriname.
