Mickele Allen, the five-year-old boy who was attacked and mauled by a pack of dogs in St D’Acre, St Ann last week, is recuperating after a special operation in New York, United States on the weekend.
However, the boy will have to undergo many skin graft and reconstructive surgeries in the future.
Mickele and his mother were flown to the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, New York on Friday, due mainly to the assistance of a group of Jamaicans, and the chief of plastic surgery at Montefiore, Dr Evan Garfein.
In an interview with ABC’s Eyewitness News, Garfein said he learnt about Mickele’s story and decided to help by raising US$250,000 for his medical care.
On Saturday, the boy underwent a nine-hour surgery.
“He (Mickele) lost a tremendous amount of blood,” Garfein said, noting that “He had about 50 to 60 per cent of his scalp torn away.”
