Police have arrested and charged a 68-year-old church elder for the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.
In an update today, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the man, who is an elder at a Port of Spain church, was arrested and charged by officers from the Child Protection Unit (CPU).
The man, who resides in Curepe, was charged yesterday with four counts of sexual touching and one count of sexual penetration of a minor by WPC Brathwaite of the Port of Spain CPU.
Police said the charges arose out of a report made to police in July 2020 by a 13-year-old girl, that while attending church, she was allegedly sexually assaulted by an elder.
Investigations revealed that the teen was allegedly sexually assaulted on numerous occasions between November 2019 and April 2020.
