Trinidad & Tobago: ‘I’ll seek help’: Dr Sawh apologises for racist comments

San Fernando doctor, Dr Avinash Sawh, has apologised for racist comments which have gone viral online, saying there is ‘no justification’ for his comments.

In a statement shared via his attorney Martin George, Dr Sawh said he has brought ‘odium, shame and embarrassment’ upon his family and associates after audio recordings were shared online in which he referred to Afro-Trinidadians as ‘monkeys’ and called members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service ‘dunce n***ers’.

Dr Sawh said he made the comments during ‘unguarded moments’ with an employee:

‘Over the past week there have been numerous statements in the public domain, both in the print and electronic media, surrounding the contents of a conversation which transpired in my private medical office between myself and an employee of mine.’
