The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Youth Affairs (AW and J) has started the project ‘From grassroot to entrepreneur and the retraining, retraining and further training of the unemployed and the employed.’ The purpose of this is to strengthen and / or impart the necessary ‘hard skills and soft skills’ of mainly unemployed youths to increase their chances of finding a job. These opportunities can be as a small business owner or employee.
This project has been submitted to the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) and is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and will run from November 2020 to June 2021. The direct execution and coordination of this project is in the hands of the Labor Market Sub-Directorate , headed by Naomi Esajas-Friperson.
Young people in the age category 16-24 years can participate in this project, who are not attending school, are unemployed and want to start a business or are looking for a job with an employer. Working young people who are looking for a different challenge can also participate in this project. The training will be provided in the districts of Paramaribo, Wanica, Saramacca and Nickerie.
