Suriname: Criminal proceedings against Bouterse will be continued

The criminal case against Desi Bouterse will continue on October 30. Because of COVID-19 and the measures taken by the government, the Court Martial was forced to postpone the case several times.

The Council of War orders Bouterse to be present at the session on Friday, October 30 at 9 a.m. At the hearing, Bouterse can then submit his objections to the Court Martial.

During the handling of the resistance case on January 22, the process started. However, the substance of the case could not be dealt with, because the composition of the Court Martial was not the same as when a judgment was rendered in November 2019 in the December 8 trial.

The next of kin hope that the resistance procedure will be completed as soon as possible, Hugo Essed, the surviving relatives’ attorney, previously told Suriname Herald.
