Haiti: Officials Introduce New National ID Card, Says Current Version Invalid

A new National Identification Card is replacing the version currently in use in Haiti, the Ministry of Justice and Security (MJSP) announced Tuesday.

The ID card that has been in use for years is no longer valid, the officials said in a press statement. They said the new card meets security standards and will allow residents to fully enjoy their civil and political rights.

Residents can get the new card at any branch of the National Office of Identification (ONI), they said. They did not say whether the ONI building recently torched during street protests in Port-au-Prince is back in operation and able to distribute the new cards.
