Citizens can now report instances of exchange rate violations via a click line. Following the adjustment of the exchange rates published by the Central Bank of Suriname (CBvS) and thus the implementation of the controlled floating exchange rate arrangement as of September 22, 2020, the CBvS has set up a telephone info line for the benefit of the public on October 12, 2020. reporting exchange rate violations and violators.

The daily published exchange rates of the CBvS are applicable for the entire economy. Using higher selling rates than the published selling rate of the CBvS for the US dollar is by no means permitted. The exchange rate ratios with other foreign means of payment are derived from the relevant sales rate and the prevailing international exchange rates.

Society can report exchange rate violations and offenders via telephone number 425338, anonymously or otherwise. The telephone info line is available on all working days from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The CBvS will register the reports and take appropriate measures on the basis of this, insofar as the offenders are financial institutions under its supervision. To the extent that the offenders are other than these financial institutions, it will take appropriate action in conjunction with appropriate government agencies and authorities.
