Trinidad & Tobago: Prison officer killed in police confrontation

A prison officer was among two men shot dead in a confrontation with police yesterday afternoon.

According to police reports, the deceased were identified as Joel Ramsundar and Venezuelan national Alejandro Gonzales.

Ramsundar, police said, was attached to the Remand Yard in Arouca.

According to police reports, around 4.30 pm officers from the Central Division went to John Street, Chaguanas, to execute a warrant.

However, upon their arrival, police claim they were shot at. The officers returned fire, and Ramsundar and Gonzales were found in the house bleeding from multiple injuries.

They were rushed to the Chaguanas District Hospital, however, they succumbed to their wounds.

During the shootout, police said, one officer was shot in the abdomen and two others grazed on their calves.
