Trinidad & Tobago: ‘Yankee’ killed in confrontation with police

A confrontation with police in San Fernando yesterday morning has left one man dead. 

The deceased has been identified as Damien Scoon, also known as ‘Yankee’ of Jamadar Street, San Fernando. 

He was said to be well-known to investigators; he was linked to gang related offences and human trafficking. 

According to police reports, at about 4:21am yesterday, officers of the Southern Division and the Special Intelligence Unit (SIU), went to Scoon’s apartment to execute a search warrant. However, when they arrived, they said Scoon was armed with a weapon. 

He was called upon to surrender but failed to comply.
