Trinidad & Tobago: Opposition Leader: ‘Protect our women’

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said more measures must be taken to protect the nation’s women.

Persad-Bissessar’s comment came today via a statement in response to yesterday’s beheading of a Penal woman, which is a suspected domestic incident.

She also called for the promised implementation of electronic monitoring bracelets, the legislation for which was recently approved by the government.

Persad-Bissessar said: ‘I am sad to learn that more of our women continue to face heinous acts of violence, many times at the hands of persons they once knew and trusted. We are also seeing where our Venezuelan sisters are not spared from these practices and I ask, what is being done in combating such heinous acts?
