Suriname: Fernandes employee injured in failed robbery

A truck from Fernandes Bottling Company was involved in an attempted robbery near Atjoni on Tuesday afternoon. In this attempt, shots were fired at the vehicle, in which one of the occupants was slightly injured.

The employees have been medically examined and are doing well under the circumstances, Fernandes Bottling said in a press release.

The robbers failed to capture because the truck was not stopped. However, the attempt would have been unsuccessful, because the truck contained no cash.

Fernandes Bottling Company has been working for quite some time to encourage retailers to pay fully cashless, through a national campaign in collaboration with the Surinamese Bankers Association. Retailers have the option to pay via internet banking or via POS machines upon delivery of their order.
