Haitians Protest Against Holding New Elections

Just two days after Haiti President Jovenel Moïse named the new Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) of nine members, Port-au-Prince residents took to the streets on Sunday to protest against a new election.

“Jovenel destroyed Bel Air, destroyed La Saline, we don’t want elections,” one protester said on Tripotay Lakay‘s YouTube channel, referring to the Bel Air massacre in August and the 2018 La Saline massacre. Both killed at least 27 people.

This latest protest joins a growing list of three others: the University of Haiti’s law students denouncing Monferrier Dorval’s murder, the Fantom 509 group’s demanding police officer Jean-Pascal Alexandre’s release from prison and the high school students’ protests asking their teachers to report to work.
