Sectors of Puerto Plata are in shock after the incident involving the pilgrim of Villa Altagracia, Migdomio Adames, who gathered hundreds of people to deposit a cross in the Puerto Plata sea.
The president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Puerto Plata, Sixto Peralta, stated that he was in a state of shock at this incident and “the lax and irresponsible attitude of the authorities.”
“While it is true that the new municipal authorities acted with irresponsible ignorance, those who had to maintain control and order turned a blind eye and did not do their duty, such as the Government, Public Health and the National Police” .
He said that this situation “jeopardizes the efforts being made to mitigate the effects of the pandemic in the province, with initiatives such as the Solidarity Fund that has been supporting the institutions that work in prevention and attention to affected people, which even evaluates the contribution of resources for the establishment of two isolation and quarantine centers in the province ”.
Peralta said that if the sanitary cord was established, “it would be a deadly thrust to the efforts being made so that cruise tourism could restart its operations in June,” assuring that this would make Puerto Plata the only destination in the Caribbean in this situation.
