Dominican Republic: Plan guarantees food for families in quarantine

The director of the Social Assistance Plan of the Presidency (PASP) guaranteed yesterday that the most vulnerable families in the country will continue to receive food assistance while the preventive measures by Covid-19 are maintained, since there is currently a food self-sufficiency of 85%, since what was previously destined for the 7.5 million tourists is now also available.

“That will be what will allow us to have the basics for food, also highlighting that we feed about 7.5 million tourists that we do not have, so that these foods are also available,” said Iris Guaba, who stressed that The country was congratulated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for being one of the countries that has food self-sufficiency.

Guaba revealed that by order of President Danilo Medina and the Administration of the Presidency, José Ramón Peralta, already working in extensive logistics to also distribute chickens to the public, because that sector currently has an overproduction of 7 million pounds in a cold room.
