The owner of a Welsh Chinese takeout spot has been sentenced to four months in prison after getting caught running a business that a judge called “unspeakably dirty.”
“If the public had seen the state of that kitchen then you would not have had a single customer,” Judge Geraint Walters said.
The 62-year-old Zhi Zhao, who ran Grace Chinese Takeaway in a small village called Cilgerran in Pembrokeshire, admitted to five food hygiene offenses.
The trouble started with an inspection of the spot in January 2018, when inspectors ordered him to improve the business. But though he tried some tidying up, Zhao’s takeaway never became fit to serve food, and, most crucially, inspectors learned that he had already been banned by a court in Maidstone, England, from being involved in food businesses back in 2009.
