A Brooklyn cabbie says he’s breathing easier now that the young women who allegedly robbed him and threw chemicals in his eyes are in cuffs.
Roland Cadet, 47, knew something was wrong as soon as he picked up the five teenagers and young adults near Atlantic Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant about 4:30 p.m. Oct. 23.
So he demanded payment up front.
“I’ve been doing this job for so long I already know who’s going to pay and not,” said Cadet, who’s driven a cab for four years and a bus before that. “If you look bad, you talk nasty, I’m going to tell you, ‘Sir, you’re going to pay me first. If you don’t want to, call somebody else.’”
He demanded the group shell out the entire $18 fare, but they only gave him $11, he told the Daily News on Tuesday. So he drove them to a gas station to use an ATM.
