Barbados: School cafeterias soon required to serve only healthy meals

The Ministry of Education is in the process of making it compulsory for all school cafeterias to serve only healthy meals, given the increasing prevalence of childhood obesity in Barbados.

Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Public Affairs, Senator Lucille Moe revealed the above, as she delivered remarks at a Childhood Obesity Prevention Media Managers Orientation Event held by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados (HSFB) yesterday, in the Needham’s Ballroom at the Hilton Barbados Resort.

“This decision was made after it was discovered that most secondary school menus are comprised of white potato fries, burgers and fried chicken, all of which are contributing factors to this worrisome problem,” Minister Moe stated.
