Dominican Republic: Deputies reactivate debate reforming Constitution

Deputies Marcos Cross and Juan Carlos Quiñones, of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in the current presidential candidate Leonel Fernández, opposed yesterday the new attempts to modify the Constitution before the primaries of the political parties on October 6 This year, to unify the two elections of the year 2020, which also seeks to enable President Danilo Medina to be a candidate in 2024.

Cross said it is not the right time to talk about modifying the Magna Carta after the manifestations of rejection in Congress. For Quiñones, it would be advisable to modify article 272 of the Constitution to place more impediments so that a President cannot modify the Substantive Letter at will.
