Dominican Republic: Parties have not yet adopted transparency measures

The first electoral observation report prepared by Participación Ciudadana (PC) points out that, to date, political parties are disinterested, or at least slow, to adopt mechanisms of control and financial transparency, which include an accounting system in which they are reflected the movements of income and expenses, including the recording of economic contributions received.

In the monitoring, it is established that it was not possible to find evidence of the existence in any political party of a record containing the names and surnames of the taxpayers with their respective amounts, as provided in article 71 of Law 33-18.

It adds that the negligence extends to the legal obligation of a single account, managed by the treasurer or finance secretary and the president or any other person indicated in the bylaws, on public financing and private contributions, duly individualized.
